Comptes Rendus

Before submitting

Who can submit an article to Comptes Rendus?

Any researcher can submit an article to Comptes Rendus (with the exception of CR Biologies), regardless of their affiliated institution. However, contributions to a themed issue are subject to invitation by an editor-in-chief or guest editor of the journal.

Comptes Rendus Biologies only publishes articles by invitation.

Researchers who have won awards from the Académie des sciences and newly elected members are systematically asked to submit an article on their field of research to the Comptes Rendus series corresponding to their discipline.

What does Comptes Rendus publish?

Originally designed to briefly announce significant new results, Comptes Rendus has evolved considerably and now publishes research articles, review articles, historical or biographical articles, as well as thematic issues edited by guest editors from France or abroad.

For more information on the editorial policy of each series and the submission procedure, please consult the website of the series concerned.

Author commitments

By submitting their manuscript to Comptes Rendus, the corresponding author affirms that:

  • The article complies with the editorial policy of the journal;
  • The Comptes Rendus Code of Ethics and Good Practices has been respected, and in particular:

    • The corresponding author has obtained permission from any co-authors to submit their contribution on their behalf;
    • If the submitted text contains elements protected by third-party copyright (e.g., illustrations, tables, animations, etc.), the author has obtained all necessary permissions for their publication in Comptes Rendus, under a CC-BY 4.0 license;
  • The text complies with the technical, IT, stylistic, and bibliographic requirements described in the instructions to authors.

Submitting your manuscript

Submission platforms

All manuscripts must be submitted via our Open Journal System (OJS) editorial management software. Manuscripts received by email or postal mail will not be reviewed.

To use the software, the corresponding author must create a free account or log in to an existing account if they already have one.

An account created for one series of Comptes Rendus cannot be used to submit to another series: for example, if you wish to submit a manuscript to CR Mathématique after having already published an article in CR Mécanique, you will need to create a new account.

Peer review process

After an initial review by an editor-in-chief, who verifies that manuscripts comply with the journal's editorial policy, articles submitted to Comptes Rendus are evaluated by specialists in the relevant field. These experts assess the scientific and editorial quality of the article and send their comments to the authors so that the article can be improved.

The final decision to accept the article in its final version is made by the associate editor responsible for managing the field covered by the manuscript and/or by an editor-in-chief or guest editor-in-chief.

For more information, click here.

After acceptance

The editorial decision to accept or reject the article is communicated to the author as soon as possible, usually 4 to 5 months after the initial submission.

If accepted, the author must sign a non-exclusive rights transfer agreement with the journal for the distribution of their article under a CC-BY 4.0 license. The author retains all of their copyright (for more information, click here).

Articles are then checked by the Comptes Rendus editorial team, who may contact authors if necessary to obtain additional information or files (particularly data and/or figures), then laid out and prepared according to the journal's template.

PDF proofs of the text in its original language are sent to the corresponding author. They must be carefully checked and returned as soon as possible. At this stage, only strictly formal corrections (presentation of illustrations and/or equations, in particular) are possible. If no response is received within 8 days, the article will be published with only the editor's corrections.
