Foreword
This thematic issue is a continuation of the annual meeting of GECat (French acronym for Study Group on Catalysis), held in Mont Sainte-Odile, nearby Obernai (Alsace, France) from 26 to 29 May 2015. Founded in 1970 by both academic and industrial researchers, GECat joined the French Chemical Society as a thematic group in 2001. GECat aims at bringing together the French-speaking researchers of the catalysis community. GECat organizes thematic annual meetings in order to develop exchanges among researchers and promote the integration of young researchers (PhD students, postdoctorate fellows). The GECat meeting is also the occasion for awarding the Prize of the Catalysis Division (Divcat). It is given to a young researcher (under 40) who has significantly contributed to catalysis. In 2015, Nicolas Bion (IC2MP, Poitiers), was rewarded for his work on the development of new synthesis tools in non-conventional media.
The topics of the meetings are defined by the GECat board every year. They cover both emerging issues and major areas of research in catalysis. In 2015, the topics focused on the comparison between model and real feeds, electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, and plasma-assisted catalysis, and finally to (multi)metallic catalysts. The 10 articles published in this issue deal with these topics, which were widely discussed during the congress, but they also address other interesting issues, showing the vitality of catalysis research in both academic and industrial groups, from France or elsewhere.
We thank the invited speakers as well as the participants (Fig. 1) for their contribution to the success of the conferences and of this thematic issue.

Avant-propos
Ce numéro thématique fait suite à la réunion annuelle du groupement d’étude sur la catalyse (GECat) qui s'est tenue au pied du mont Saint-Odile près d’Obernai (Alsace) du 26 au 29 mai 2015. Fondé en 1970 par des chercheurs académiques et industriels, le GECat est un groupe thématique de la Société chimique de France (SCF) depuis 2001, et a pour vocation de fédérer la communauté francophone de catalyse. Il organise des réunions thématiques annuelles dans le but de promouvoir les échanges entre chercheurs et de favoriser l'intégration de jeunes chercheurs (doctorants, post-doctorants). C'est également à l'occasion de la réunion du GECat qu'est remis le prix de la division catalyse (Divcat) de la SCF. Ce prix est décerné à un jeune chercheur (de moins de 40 ans) ayant apporté une contribution majeure à la catalyse. [En2015], il a été remis à Nicolas Bion, de l'institut de chimie des milieux et matériaux de Poitiers, pour ses travaux liés au développement de synthèses écocompatibles, notamment utilisant des milieux non conventionnels.
Les thèmes des réunions sont définis par le bureau du GECat. Ils couvrent à la fois des sujets émergents ainsi que les grands champs de recherche de la catalyse. Les thèmes choisis en 2015 ont porté sur les catalyseurs métalliques et multi-métalliques, sur la comparaison entre charge modèle et charge réelle ou complexe, et finalement un thème dédié à l’électrocatalyse, la photocatalyse & la catalyse assistée par plasma. La dizaine d'articles parus dans ce numéro portent sur ces différentes thématiques reflétant la diversité des travaux de recherche issus de groupes académiques ou industriels, de France et d'ailleurs.
Nous remercions les conférenciers invités ainsi que les participants (Fig. 1) pour leur contribution à la réussite du congrès et de ce numéro.
Enfin, nous sommes reconnaissants à Pierre Braunstein, rédacteur en chef des Comptes rendus Chimie, pour avoir permis l’édition de ce numéro thématique, ainsi qu'à Mme Fatima Messadi pour la gestion des manuscrits.
