Avant-propos
Promouvoir de nouvelles et fructueuses collaborations entre équipes italiennes et françaises spécialisées dans des domaines différents de la chimie constitue l'un des objectifs majeurs des Rencontres franco-italiennes en chimie organique, congrès initié par les professeurs Carlo Bonini (Potenza, Italie), Guy Solladié et Arlette Solladié-Cavallo (Strasbourg). Quatre rencontres ont eu lieu à ce jour. En 1999, la première Rencontre franco-italienne, organisée par Carlo Bonini, s'est tenue à Maratea (Italie) et était consacrée à la synthèse asymétrique. La seconde, organisée par Arlette Solladié-Cavallo, s'est tenue à Strasbourg (France) et fut centrée sur la stéréosélectivité et l'évolution de la chimie organique vers de nouveaux objectifs. La troisième, consacrée à la chimie organique aux interfaces, eut lieu à Pise (Italie) en 2002 et fut organisée par Piero Salvadori (Italie) et Jacques Royer (université Paris-5).
Ce volume des Comptes rendus Chimie réunit des contributions provenant des conférences et des communications présentées lors de la quatrième Rencontre franco-italienne qui s'est tenue à Annecy (France) du 5 au 8 mai 2004. Organisée par les professeurs Yannick Vallée et Pascal Dumy (université Joseph-Fourier–Grenoble-1, France), elle était orientée vers les nouvelles applications de la chimie organique aux frontières de la biologie. Quinze conférences furent données par des chercheurs italiens et/ou français, auxquels se sont joints deux conférenciers « externes » : le professeur Christian Griesinger du Max-Plank Institut de Göttingen (Allemagne) et le professeur Pedro Merino de l'université de Saragosse (Espagne).
Lors de l'ouverture du congrès, le professeur Pierre Vitte, président de l'université franco-italienne, s'est félicité des liens étroits qui unissent les scientifiques français et italiens et a encouragé vivement ce type de manifestation scientifique. Les organisateurs désiraient mettre l'accent sur l'interface avec la biologie. De nombreuses conférences et discussions ont porté sur les nouvelles approches de la synthèse organique (approche biotechnologique, chimie combinatoire, réaction radicalaire), de la spectroscopie (RMN, RPE) ainsi que sur les aspects de reconnaissance moléculaire (chimie supramoléculaire, systèmes organisés, calixarène).
Les Rencontres bilatérales franco-italiennes continuant sous leur forme première seront toujours consacrées à promouvoir des collaborations approfondies entre l'Italie et la France. Ainsi, la cinquième Rencontre franco-italienne se tiendra à Salerne en 2006 et sera organisée par le professeur Raffaele Riccio (Salerne).
Foreword
The French–Italian Meeting on Organic Chemistry (FIMOC) aims to develop as a forum that brings the organic chemist with diverse research interests and expertises from Italy and France to develop a close and mutually beneficial exchange of ideas and collaborations. The FIMOC owes its origin to the efforts of Professors Carlo Bonini, Guy Solladié and Arlette Solladié-Cavallo, who rightly felt the need to induce a tight cooperation among the organic chemists of the two nations. The 1st FIMOC was organized by Prof. Bonini in 1999 at Maratea (Italy) and the 2nd FIMOC by Prof. Solladié-Cavallo at Strasbourg in 2000. The 3rd FIMOC was organized jointly by Prof. Piero Salvadori (Italy) and Prof. Jacques Royer (France) in Pisa in 2002. The discussions in these meetings are organized around a particular theme, which is carefully selected depending on the relevance to the scientists from the two countries. The 1st to 3rd FIMOC had themes such as ‘Asymmetric Synthesis’ (1999), ‘Organic Chemistry, Stereocontrol and New Targets’ (2000) and ‘Organic Chemistry towards Interfaces’ (2002).
The latest in this series, the 4th FIMOC was held recently at Annecy from 5–8 May 2004 and jointly organized by Prof. Yannick Vallee and Prof. Pascal Dumy (University Joseph-Fourier, Grenoble-1, France). Professor Pierre Vitte, President of the Italian–French University, who opened the meeting, stressed on the need to further strengthen the existing relationships between the scientific communities of the two nations. The theme of the present meeting was ‘Organic Chemistry: New Frontiers and Challenging Applications’ and hence much emphasis was made on research areas at the interface of Chemistry and Biology. The meeting included a total of fifteen lectures by speakers from the two participating countries and two invited lectures, one from Germany (Prof. Christian Griesinger, Max Plank Institut, Göttingen) and another from Spain (Prof. Pedro Merino, University of Zaragoza).
The FIMOC intends to continue these efforts to promote convivial and intense discussions and to strive for establishment of close collaborations between the individuals as well as institutions of the two countries. The next in this series, the 5th Italian–French Meeting on Organic Chemistry shall be organized in 2006 in Salerno (Italy) with Prof. Raffaele Riccio as chairman. We look forward to the meeting and hope that it would further built upon the good foundation laid by the earlier meetings.
The present issue of Comptes rendus Chimie contains papers based on the lectures and communications presented at the 4th FIMOC. As reflected by the theme of the meeting, the papers included in this thematic issue cover a number of diverse areas of interest. One would find papers devoted to new chemical approaches such as combinatorial chemistry and enzyme-driven chemical reactions, spectroscopic techniques such as NMR and ESR, molecular recognition chemistry including, supramolecular chemistry, chemistry of organized systems, calixarenes.
