  • Le Germ (Groupement français d'études de résonance magnétique), créée en 1977, est une association loi de 1901 qui regroupe l'ensemble des utilisateurs de résonance magnétique nucléaire (RMN) ou électronique (RPE). Ce groupement présente un caractère interdisciplinaire et couvre des domaines allant de la physique au médical, sans oublier l'étude des matériaux, la chimie, la biologie et les développements instrumentaux et méthodologiques.
  • Les années impaires, le Germ organise un congrès national qui a pour vocation première de rassembler la communauté francophone de résonance magnétique, stimulant ainsi les échanges et les coopérations scientifiques. En 2007, le XXe congrès s'est tenu du 25 au 30 mars à Alénya (Pyrénées-Orientales) et a rassemblé environ 140 participants. Les articles originaux et mini-revues présentés dans ce numéro thématique sont le reflet du large éventail des problématiques et des applications diverses présentées et discutées pendant ce congrès.
  • Nous voudrions remercier les conférenciers invités et les participants qui ont contribué à ce numéro thématique, ainsi que les nombreux experts nationaux et internationaux que nous avons sollicités. Nous remercions les membres du XXe bureau (A. Böckmann, C. Bonhomme, J.-M. Bonny, T. Charpentier, F. Fayon, B. Gillet, R. Graff, P. Hennig, F. Herman et B. Kieffer) pour leur contribution efficace à la tenue de cette manifestation. Enfin, nous tenons à manifester toute notre gratitude à l'Académie des sciences, qui a bien voulu nous renouveler sa confiance en nous faisant bénéficier une fois encore de son patronage.
  • The GERM (‘Groupement français d'études de résonance magnétique’) is a French Society established in 1977 in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance and electronic paramagnetic resonance. The group has a multidisciplinary nature that involves various branches of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, and scientific instrumentation.
  • Every odd year, the GERM Committee organizes a conference providing a national and international forum to the francophone MR community for the presentation and discussion of recent NMR, EPR and MRI developments and for stimulating scientific exchanges and collaborations. In 2007, the XXth GERM meeting took place at Alénya (Pyrénées-Orientales, France), from 20 to 24 March. The mini-reviews as well as the regular papers presented in this thematic issue reflect the broad range of new subjects and applications presented and discussed during this meeting.
  • We wish to thank the invited speakers and all the authors who have provided contributions to this thematic issue, as well as the national and international board of referees. We are also indebted to our colleagues from the XXth GERM board: A. Böckmann, C. Bonhomme, J.-M. Bonny, T. Charpentier, F. Fayon, B. Gillet, R. Graff, P. Hennig, F. Herman, and B.
