Avant-propos
Le premier colloque scientifique international MOLMAT «International Symposium on Molecular Materials and Organometallics » s'est tenu du 12 au 14 mai 2004 à l'université de Rennes-1, dans les locaux de l'Institut de chimie. Le but de cette manifestation scientifique était de réunir des chimistes et physicochimistes intéressés par tous les aspects de la chimie des matériaux moléculaires et par leurs retombées. Cela englobe les nouvelles méthodes de synthèse de composés organométalliques et organiques, les propriétés physicochimiques et les applications dans les domaines de l'électronique, l'optique non linéaire, les cristaux liquides, la luminescence, le magnétisme, la conductivité… De nombreux chercheurs français et étrangers sont intervenus lors de ce congrès, qui a rassemblé plus d'une centaine de participants. Cette manifestation a permis également de favoriser les échanges et réflexions entre spécialistes d'horizons différents. Cela a été l'occasion d'offrir à des chercheurs, en particulier aux plus jeunes, l'opportunité d'une formation complémentaire de haut niveau.
Je tiens à remercier les auteurs des contributions à ce numéro thématique. Un grand merci également aux membres du comité d'organisation (V. Guerchais, K. Costuas, M. Hissler, C. Lapinte, R. Réau, J.-L. Fillaut, J.-F. Halet, O. Maury, S. Rigaut, F. Paul), ainsi qu'aux étudiants et personnels techniques et administratifs des UMR 6509 et 6511 pour leur contribution majeure au succès de ce congrès. Nous espérons que cette initiative sera relayée à l'avenir dans d'autres universités européennes.
Foreword
The first International Symposium on Molecular Materials and Organometallics (MOLMAT) took place at the University of Rennes-1, France, from 12 to 14 May 2004, with more than one hundred French and foreign participants. This symposium was organized as a result of rapid developments in the field of molecular materials from concepts to applications. The aim was to gather chemists and physicochemists working in different areas, from molecular engineering of functional organic and organometallic compounds to applications in electronics, nonlinear optics, liquid crystals, photo- and electro-luminescence, magnetism, conductivity…, and to favour fruitful discussions. This symposium was also a good opportunity to offer to young researchers a high level up-to-date formation on these different fields.
I would like to thank all authors for their contributions to this thematic issue. I also acknowledge the members of the organising committee (V. Guerchais, K. Costuas, M. Hissler, C. Lapinte, R. Réau, J.-L. Fillaut, J-F. Halet, O. Maury, S. Rigaut, F. Paul) and the students and technical and administrative staffs of the CNRS Units 6509 and 6510 for their efficient contribution to the success of this meeting. We hope that in the near future this symposium will be organized again somewhere in a European University.
