Ce numéro thématique fait suite à la réunion annuelle du GECat (Groupe d'étude en catalyse) qui s'est tenu à Hammamet (Tunisie) du 26 au 30 mai 2008. Fondé il y a près de 40 ans par des chercheurs académiques et industriels, le GECat est un groupe thématique de la Division catalyse de la Société chimique de France (DivCat) depuis 2001 et a vocation à fédérer la communauté de catalyse francophone. Il organise des réunions thématiques annuelles dans le but de promouvoir les échanges entre chercheurs et de favoriser l'intégration des jeunes chercheurs (doctorants et post-doctorants notamment). C'est également à l'occasion de la réunion du GECat qu'est remis le Prix DivCat décerné à un jeune chercheur (moins de 40 ans) ayant apporté une contribution majeure à la catalyse. En 2008, ce prix a été remis à Denis Guillaume (IFP Lyon) pour ses travaux sur les procédés d'hydrotraitement et David Farrusseng (IRCELYON) pour ses contributions aux méthodes «haut-débit » en catalyse hétérogène.
Les thèmes des réunions sont définis par le bureau du GECat. Elles couvrent les sujets émergents ainsi que les grands champs de la recherche en catalyse hétérogène sur un cycle de 3–4 ans. Les thèmes choisis en 2008 ont porté sur les techniques avancées de caractérisation (in situ, operando et sciences des surfaces), les nouveaux matériaux catalytiques pour le raffinage et la pétrochimie et l'utilisation des bioressources pour l'énergie, les transports et la chimie. Les vingt articles de ce numéro thématique reflètent la diversité des contributions à ce congrès : travaux de recherches de groupes académiques ou industriels, de France et d'ailleurs…
Nous remercions les membres du bureau du GECat : C. Batiot-Dupeyrat (LACCO, Poitiers), V. Bellière-Baca (Rhodia), D. Minoux (TOTAL, Feluy), N. Tanchoux (ICGM, Montpellier) et L. Piccolo (IRCELYON) qui ont permis la tenue de cette réunion du GECat ; les participants qui ont contribué à ce numéro thématique ainsi que les nombreux experts nationaux et internationaux que nous avons sollicités. This thematic issue follows the annual meeting of the GECat (French acronym for Catalysis Study Group) held in Hammamet (Tunisia), 26–30 May 2008. Founded about 40 years ago by academic and industry researchers, the GECat is a thematic group of the Catalysis Division of the French Chemical Society (DivCat) since 2001, and aims at federating the French-speaking catalysis community. It organizes annual thematic meetings which seek to promote exchanges among researchers and to facilitate the insertion of young researchers (PhD students and Postdocs in particular). The GECat meeting is also the occasion for awarding the DivCat Prize, rewarding a young researcher (less than 40) who has significantly contributed to catalysis. In 2008, this award was given to Denis Guillaume (IFP Lyon) for his works in hydrotreatment processes and to David Farrusseng (IRCELYON) for his contributions to high-throughput methodologies in heterogeneous catalysis.
The topics of the meeting are defined by the GECat board. They cover emerging subjects as well as the main research fields in heterogeneous catalysis over a 3–4 year cycle. The topics chosen in 2008 were related to advanced characterization techniques (in situ, operando and surface science), novel catalysts for refining and petrochemistry and the use of bioresources for energy, transports and chemistry. The twenty articles of this thematic issue reflect the diversity of the contributions presented during this meeting: studies from academic and industrial research groups, in France and elsewhere…
